First things first. Danny Boyle is an awesome director. No two opinions on that.
A story of Aaron Rolston would not attract a heavy crowd. Even now many people think he is just an idiot who should rightly be called ‘infamous’ and not rather famous. The empty seats during opening weekend were proof to this.
You know what to expect from a movie about a man, whose hand gets stuck under a rock for 127 hours. Well… the movie is better than what you just expected. The screenplay was a fast, nasty, emotional, painful and nauseating ride. It is made a lot interesting since they ve included Aaron’s wry sense of humour, not to forget bits and pieces of his entire life. Aaron flips through his most cherished memories about his first love, family and his attitude. His struggle to keep himself alive and his consequent mental breakdown has been captured beautifully by the director.
The best thing about Boyle’s direction would be the raw, jagged edge he gives to the movie in terms of Cinematography and music. James Franco slips into into the character like a glove and I am glad he has a face suitable for frequent close ups.
For people who know what s coming, this movie is a must watch. Rest of you who are busy buying pop corn… finish it off before the first 15 mins of the movie and the save the janitor some cleaning work.
Rating – 3.5/5
