Bollywood needs to stay away from kids TV

Here is something that might irritate you. A garbage promo for an upcoming garbage show that I saw on TV.

I'm betting this show is gonna Suck. Just to be clear, Chulbul Pandey is a terrible role model for kids. No kid should ever have to lookup to Chulbul Pandey of all characters. If you think I'm being pessimistic as a whole, I have good reason to be.

As it is, Rohit Shetty 's minions have taken over children 's tv, prime time, matinee and all. Now instead of creative and interesting shows like the old Cartoon network shows, kids are shown this. Even reasonably well written shows like Bandbudh aur Budbak, grizzly, Titto and chota Bheem are being replaced or supplemented by these abominations.

I mean, look at this. Little Singham and Simmba are among the poorest animated shows I ve seen in my life. Each episode looks like they were written over a Chai break. They are boring, stupid and ridiculously simple. Most of it is just the leads boasting about themselves, beating thugs or breaking things.

I'm OK with Rohit Shetty minting money through movies. Let people watch epics like Singham verse. But making more money with absolutely no effort in the form of these shows to expand his franchise is just disgusting.

But they are just kids shows right? So what if they are bad?

No. Kids are much more sharper than we think. What they see for entertainment is very important in their mental development. They need to be exposed to interesting, funny, creative and advanced cartoons. That will help them expect better things out of not just entertainment but the types of things they want to become in future.

I don’t want to be that guy who says ‘Oh! in my time we had great cartoons’. There are good shows for kids even now. But these Bollywood shows I wrote about are terrible.

For example, the Real adventures of Johnny Quest had some mind-bending episodes. They are one of the reasons why I read, write and enjoy adventure to this day.

The episodes from the Bollywood universe shows are worse than poor rehashes of existing clichés, cardboard villains and a pointless transformation. To top it, the dialogues are cringe even for kids standards. I mean they are not even well thought out. The plots are just hero vs some person - Hero wins, episode ends.

Bollywood goons, if you want our TV space, put some effort into them. Don't just throw generic, easy-to-consume garbage. Kids deserve much better than your third… no fourth rate shows.
