Controversy’s favourite…err… human? RGV

RGV is not new to controversy. Even school children would gladly write you an essay about how controversial his methods are.

Right from comparing Suriya with Rajni and Aamir.

…to directing an ‘adult documentary’ (It’s porn... its actual porn) with Mia Malkova

…to making a movie on NTR himself, complete with Naidu as villain - RGV has done it all.

This time though, he seems to be looking at his first stint as an actor. The posters are provocative to say the least. While many posters hint at stuff, the ones he has been sharing for his upcoming movie ‘RGV missing’ have taken it to a whole new level. He has actually gone after Chiranjeevi, Pawan Kalyan, NC Naidu and… weirdly even Rajnikanth.

To his credit RGV is known to take criticism in his stride. At the time of Rakta Charitra’s release, a group of Telugu youtubers made a very small, super-low-cost spoof of the film. RGV shared the actual video and said ‘LOL, this is so good. I think this is better than my film’. Many directors have spoofed RGV, the most famous one I recollect is the comedy scene in Dookudu, where his photo is given in place of Mahesh Babu’s.

MS Narayana featured in another hilarious spoof of RGV in Baadshah.

Coming back to the current film. It is obvious that he is doing this to stir up emotions and bring in glorious negative publicity. But this has brought up a very interesting thought. Would this be possible in Tamil Nadu? Andhra-Telangana seem to be OK with it since its Jagan Reddy and KCR in power now. I cannot visualize such blatant attacks on top stars and politicians in Tamil Nadu no matter who is in power.

Or has RGV just become too much of a joke for anyone to take him seriously?

What do you think?
