It is a known fact that Marvel has taken the feel-good/family route a long time back, while DC is playing all their cards on the serious Nolan-route. Thor is another movie that features witty dialogue, less violence, a sweet-rascal hero and…*wait for it* a hot babe for a heroine. And as in the case of the Iron man series, Thor is sure to strike a chord with its suitable-for-all treatment of Marvel’s invincible avenger.
Thor is the name that comes up often comes up on forums and blogs where there are Marvel – DC wars. Marvel guys always have one great point- he is the god of thunder!! 😀 cool right? The movie wastes no time in ‘awing’ you from the first frame. You are taken through the godly world of Asgard, and the action starts before you can pick up your dropped jaw. The 3-D, epic BGM and special effects are delicious icing on the cake.
The film begins with the efforts of God king Odin in suppressing the frost giants of Jotunheim. The source of their power is seized and placed under constant supervision by a gargantuan destroyer. The plot kicks off barely minutes later when a few intruders break into Asgard and try to steal the same. The film also portrays the learning curve of Thor and his slow transition from a fierce warrior to a true Prince. His Hammer evokes loud whistles every single time it appears. The guys from SHIELD make an extended appearance in the movie unlike in other marvel films. The climax though predictable is well done.
Anthony Hopkins plays Odin, the god-king. A blond and young Chris Hemsworth portrays Thor with ease. Tom Middleton appears as his brother Loki. There was nothing controversial in Idris Elba playing Heimdall the gatekeeper, though his heroism is shunted due to the plot. A fabulous Natalie Portman plays Jane, an astro-scientist on earth. Boy, is she a sight for sore eyes!! 😉 With a well assembled cast and brisk screenplay, Thor treads interestingly into a new, godly world and makes an engaging watch.
Stricly recommended for a Weekend-getaway!! Rating – 4/5
