Who is Korea's Patient 31?

Patient 31 is the protective name used for a South Korean lady who was single-handedly responsible for the spread of the COVID-19 virus to at least 5000 Koreans.

Timeline:

• a 35 year old COVID contacted lady flies into South Korea(from another country that was possibly dealing with an outbreak). She is our Patient 31 in question.

• Patient 31 lands in a car accident in early February. While being treated for the accident, she is also diagnosed with a mild fever. She refuses treatment and demands to be discharged. Officials comply.

• She then attended the controversial ‘Shincheonji Church of Jesus’ masses on Feb 9 and 16. Do note that these are attended by hundreds if not thousands.

• Her symptoms then intensified leading her to test herself and surprise surprise, she was tested positive. She was marked as SK’s patient number 31, hence the name.

• It has been estimated that she infected 1200 people who visited the Shincheonji Church masses with her. She is single-handedly said to have caused more than 50% of S.Korea’s Corona cases.

Aftermath

• Patient 31 is said to have succumbed to the disease.

• South Korea which was taking effective measures to combat this virus were then overwhelmed with the sheer number of cases caused due to patient 31’s movements

• The controversial church of Shincheonji was lambasted by Koreans for their carelessness, leading to the public apology of the church’s leader

• South Korea had to change their battle plan to combat the new numbers.
